My hold from the library came back and I grabbed this book last week. I watched A Wanted Man sit on my desk until my trip to the UK, holding back reading it. I started it on the plane and had a hard time putting it down.
Reacher is hitchhiking. His nose is broken from the previous book and he’s trying to get to Virginia. He’s picked up by a threesome, two men and a woman that he thinks are on some corporate trip in the middle of the night. He soon realizes he’s wrong.
He gets some clues from the man, more from the woman, and finally escapes being killed by one of them. However like many of the other books, he soon realizes that his assumptions in many ways were wrong. I won’t give away the story, but it’s a good look at things in the modern, terrorist, Homeland Security world. Child does a good job of showing some of the problems with multiple agencies, and how things aren’t always what they seem. Even the end has a strange, non-confrontational end compared to many of his other books.
I enjoyed it, and it shows a Reacher growing older. At one point I thought this might be the last book and he would die, but I will say he doesn’t.
Worth the read if you enjoy the series, and good, but not one of the best.
