US Choices

It doesn’t really matter where you stand on the thoughts about where the US should spend the tax money we collect, but this was an interesting sentiment for me:

This is a sad choice, if that’s truly a choice. In today’s world, we’ve had a lot of debate on budget deficits, and then again, at times not a lot of debate. The current administration doesn’t seem to be too concerned, although they were just three years ago during the last one. I’m not complaining, just pointing out that out deficit isn’t necessarily a good or bad thing if we don’t each consistently view it as one way or the other.
I’m not diabetic, but I’ve met a few people that are, and while insulin is available in the US, the cost has risen dramatically. I couldn’t imagine how someone that makes the median income (around US$52-54k/yy) affords this.
The college thing isn’t really something I feel strongly about. I think that both the college system or sending kids far away to live and study for large sums of money, as well as the style of teaching this (what I feel is) antiquated set of ideas, needs reform. I’m not really for debt free college as a 4 year degree, but I’d love to see more people be able to go to college part time at a very low cost or free and work on a degree for 6-10 years, not 4.
However, I do think that we spend too much on the military, and really, too much on military toys. If we were more a standing person army, people would be employed, learn to be part of something bigger, support more local economies, and we’d be less likely to be in as many conflicts when we’re sending kids to war.
Just my $0.02.

Proud of My Girl

She got a mention in the school newsletter this week: https://www.smore.com/r9374-good-news-bulletin?ref=email-content#w-3924766103

This was the winter signing day for athletes, and Kendall was one of four. Two track athletes and then two volleyball athletes. Kendall and Heather have played together since 7th grade, both in school and club on a few different teams.

Some nice words from her high school coach at the event, and a quick picture.

And her club coach and director came by for the event
 And, of course, proud parents.

A nice shot of both volleyball girls and families.
