The Watchman was one of the first Kindle books I ever bought. I somehow found a Joe Pike book I hadn’t read, so I decided to go back and re-read some of them.
In this one, Joe’s on the run. He’s agreed to protect a woman, and moves to a safe house after they were last attacked. The woman isn’t happy with Joe and his methods, but as soon as they start to settle, they’re attacked again. Joe’s on the run and decides to stop talking to the Marshalls and security firm that hired him.
The book jumps forward and backward in time. Slowly we find out some of the backstory and how Joe came to be in this position. We also find him moving forward, trying to protect the girl. We get some chapters from Elvis’ point of view, and it’s a wild ride across a few days.
An exciting opening to the Joe Pike character series.
