I can't believe it, but it appears that our router is semi-dead. Tia hadn't noticed anything until she tried to print yesterday and it wouldn't. So she went to the store this morning and got a new toner cartridge. That seemed likely since it would only partially print on the page, and then garbage at times. The garbage characters didn't make sense, but we didn't dwell.
New cartridge in tonight and it wouldn't work. So she tried moving it to other ports, and called me while I was in town. It still didn't work, plus she noticed there was a toner light on the printer that had never lit up. She hooked it up to her computer with a USB cable and it worked fine.
So the ports are dead on the router, but wireless works fine. That kind of makes sense as I have had issues with my desktop being wired to the router. I eventually had to disconnect the cable and put a wireless adapter on my computer.
That is annoying. This is a Netgear Wireless-N DGN-2000 that I bought late last year. Less than a year old and the ports don't work. As such, I can't recommend this product. It could be a lemon, but I suspect that NetGear assumes more people will go wireless and doesn't use the best quality components in the ports. I'll call NetGear tomorrow and see if I can get a warranty repair, but I'll need to buy another router even if they do that.
So it's time to go shopping on Amazon.
