First Driving Lesson
Kendall had her first behind the wheel lesson tonight. Two hours of driving around town, and she did well. The only complaint was the same one from the DMV tester. She needs to completely stop at intersections with signs.
Other than that, 1/3 of the way there.

Closer
My daughter passed her driving test today. Hurrah!
Unfortunately the Colorado government passed a new law that requires 6 hours of behind the wheel driver training if you live within 30 miles of a school. That’s annoying and upsetting, but it’s the law. At least they let her take the test.
This is crazy to me, since if she just waited 6 more months, with no more training or any other validation, they’d let her ignore the 6 hours of training.
In any case, there was a new school next door to the DMV and I scheduled her for a few appointments across the next week to get her driving in.

Limping Along
I pulled, or likely tore, a calf muscle a couple weeks ago. It happened in a Tabata class and since then I’ve been trying to take it easy. A little biking, more swimming, limited yoga work.
Last weekend I went for a run on the beach in LA. Not the best decision, but I rarely get to the ocean and I miss those times. It pulled and hurt, and I ended up kind of limping down the beach, not really using my left leg, just rolling through it.
Today was the Denver Pride 5k, and I wanted to do it to support Kyle. He was going to run with me, and while I should likely have taken a few more weeks off, I decided to try. Not 1/4 mile in, I could feel it tight and painful, so I ended up just doing the same thing as on the beach. Limping a bit, trying not to use my left leg.
I finished, a slow 40:15, and felt like an old man the entire time, moving slow, getting past walkers, but decent joggers overtaking me.
Still, glad to be there with Kyle, and it was worth it. Now I worry about actually being able to run in July. I’m guessing I need to push back to July 22ish for the next 5k and rest as much as I can.
Not remotely tired but running on a torn calf was not that smart

Dried Out by Lightning
Tia will be glad I got out of the pool quickly. She doesn’t like lightning and while I’m not too scared, I have a healthy respect. Lots of deaths every year in Colorado from nature’s electricity.
It’s been an interesting workout week, and I hope I get more like this. Though I’d like to add in more yoga. Looking back to last Saturday, I ran a 5k, which was tough. Here’s the workout week
- Saturday – 5k
- Sunday – off, though on feet at the horse show most of the day (> 10k steps)
- Monday – Upper body weights
- Tuesday – Tabata
- Wednesday – Lower body weights
- Thursday – Swim
- Friday – that’s tomorrow, so hoping to get to yoga.
A good week, and I almost didn’t swim as I could see clouds, but needed cardio and since I tweaked a calf at Tabata, I didn’t want to run/bike. So I went down, struggled through 18 laps, working in groups of 3 (150y each). I am definitely out of shape with the swimming, and tonight my shoulder aches a bit.
I was halfway through lap 19, aiming to stop at 20, when the lifeguard dropped a float in front of me. I stopped and she told me lightning was in the area, so the pool closed.
At least I got an outdoor swim, and it was close enough to the goal.
