Delaney’s been struggling a bit to find a job. That’s natural, and he got a late start, which makes things hard. Lots of teenagers out there looking. Last week at his Eagle project work day, I was talking with another Dad who mentioned Sears is always looking for stockers. It seemed like a tip and I passed it on. Delaney went down there the next day, talked to the manager, got an app and turned it in.
And heard nothing.
This weekend, we’re driving around on a Saturday with the family. We stop at Freddy’s for a bite to eat. Yes, I know it’s bad, but it’s so good.
There’s a sign in the window, we’re hiring. I point it out to Delaney. He thinks it’s a bit far (up in Centennial), but it’s really not more than 5 minutes from Parker. After we order, he asks for an app and fills it out. Has an interview with the manager as we’re eating and watching, and then gets asked to come back for orientation on Sunday. He’s got a job. Tia and I joked that he’d probably get offered two more this week.
We leave, and we’re driving to the movies. It’s like 20 minutes later and Delaney’s phone rings. I quietly guess that it’s another job.
It is. It’s Sears calling him back to come in Monday. He’s there now, talking, trying to see if he can work two jobs, with a uniform and training scheduled this week at Freddy’s.
When it rains, it pours.
