Interviewed Live
Kyle got interviewed yesterday, as part of his fellowship at Healthier Colorado. Very cool!
Python and Delaney
Delaney’s taking a programming class this semester, as a way of getting ready for college next year. He’s enjoying it and excited. While we were in NE, he sent me one of his programs, which worked well. It was cool to see.
Today we chatted a bit, and he’s enjoying his time with Python and solving problems. Neat to see him engaged and having fun.

Three Days Off
After an early flight to Germany and a late checkin, with work to do, I didn’t run Tuesday. Then Wednesday I was beat, hitting snooze and decided since this was the only day I would sleep in on a 10 day trip, I took it. Then all day traveling yesterday, getting home and tired, I missed three days of exercise.
Ugh. Not what I like.
At least I ran this morning before we drive to Omaha.

The 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse
Disclosure: It hasn’t been 10 days, but I wanted to write something at this point, after 7 days. I know some of you are trying to be more healthy, so I’m posting some thoughts.
Let me cut to the chase, and then some thoughts. First, this is a week for me with no coffee, no alcohol, no soda, and almost no food. I’m amazed I got here. I’ve lost 12+ pounds from when I started.
I’ve been doing the Green Smoothie Cleanse with my wife. For the last seven days, I’ve been subsisting on
- green smoothies (I get 64oz/day)
- decaf tea (green and detox)
- carrots
- grapes
- nuts
- hard boiled eggs
- peanut butter (and cashew butter, which is really good)
- water
That's it. I drink about 4 of these a day:
And these smoothies, usually in 3-4 chunks.
Lovely, huh?
I’m hungry often, but mostly I’m unsatisfied. It’s a mixed bag for me. I’ve lost weight. I think I’m slimmer and healthier, but I also think about food. A lot. All the time.
I also think about how I think about food. I realize it’s comfort for me, and probably need to take less comfort and be more careful.
It’s been an interesting week. Three days to go and then I’ll be back on a semi normal diet. There is a transition with one smoothie and then better eating. I’ll try that a bit, but I spend 10 days traveling for work, which will be tough. At least I’m more aware of what I eat and what I can tolerate with regards to hunger.
Tia and I have both gained some weight in the last year. For me, when I stopped running at the beginning of the year (well, not stopped but slowed), my body changed and I didn’t have the urgency to exercise every day. I’ve started to get back to that, but it has lacked some intensity. I’ve been almost as heavy as I’ve ever been.
When Tia asked me to try this last week, I wasn’t sure, but I’d been feeling heavy, so I agreed. I wasn’t sure if I’d make 10 days, and I’m still not. I can, but I miss eating and coffee. I’m tempted to stop, but going to try and make it.
The hard day was Saturday, going up to Boulder with Delaney. We ate in the dining hall. He had a salad and stuffed shells. I had grades, nuts, carrots, and peanut butter. That was tough.
I am trying not to cheat, and fortunately we had some stuff cooked before this started, so I haven’t had to cook much for Kendall and Delaney, but I need to cook some the next few days, so we’ll see how it goes.
